These will be our first stop on our Pretoria City with Cullinan Mine Tour. The planning of the Voortrekker Monument was done from 1931 by Afrikaner Cultural Organization.
On the 16th December 1949, the monument was introduced. This date was selected to coincide with the commemoration of the Battle of Blood River.
In 1994 the management of the monument launched a campaign to change the perceptions of the monument. It was based on its cultural significance rather than its political meaning.
In 2011 the Voortrekker Monument was declared a National Heritage Site a clear indication that the changes made were deemed positive.
We will spend about 1 hour on these Heritage Site on Pretoria City and Cullinan Mine Tour.
