Kenya Rift Valley Lakes Explorer Safari

Rather than focusing purely on the Big Five, this itinerary is built around the Rift Valley’s water and geology — rhino tracking at Lake Nakuru, hot springs and geysers at Lake Bogoria, and a boat safari and birdwatching at Lake Baringo.

Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Bogoria National Reserve, plus the Lake Baringo basin, which is not a formally gazetted park but is one of Kenya’s best birdwatching destinations.

White and black rhino, lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and — depending on lake conditions — seasonal flamingo flocks along the shoreline.

The hot springs and geysers lining the lakeshore, a geothermal feature that’s genuinely rare to see up close on an East African safari.

A guided boat ride brings you close to hippos and crocodiles, with rich birdlife visible along the shoreline throughout — a highlight for photographers and birders.

Lake Baringo alone hosts over 400 recorded bird species, including kingfishers, fish eagles, herons, and hornbills, making this one of the best short birding circuits in Kenya.

Yes, though it suits birders, photographers, and repeat Kenya visitors particularly well. First-timers wanting Big Five density across open savannah may prefer a Masai Mara-focused itinerary instead.

This safari runs year-round, though flamingo numbers at both Nakuru and Bogoria vary seasonally depending on lake salinity and water levels. See our Best Time to Go on Safari in Africa guide for broader Kenya travel timing.
