Meet five rescued African elephants at Elephant Whispers, one of South Africa’s most respected ethical elephant sanctuaries, on the R40 just outside Hazyview. This half-day activity from Africa Moja Tours includes return transfers, entrance fees, and a guided interaction with the resident herd.

Each of the five elephants has a distinct personality and story. Handlers guide guests through touching, feeding, and photographing the herd, while explaining their behaviour, anatomy, social bonds, and the conservation challenges facing African elephants. The sanctuary limits daily interactions to protect the herd’s wellbeing, giving the elephants ample time for free-feeding, rest, and mud baths between sessions.

Located approximately 10 km from Hazyview, Elephant Whispers is one of the most convenient wildlife activities for guests staying in the area.

Tour Overview

Your safari begins with collection from Mombasa, Diani Beach, or Nairobi, before travelling to the legendary Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s oldest and largest wildlife reserves. Continue through the dramatic volcanic landscapes of Tsavo West National Park, famous for its lava flows, rocky hills, and crystal-clear Mzima Springs, before concluding your adventure in Amboseli National Park, where the towering peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro create one of Africa’s most iconic safari backdrops.

Throughout the journey, you’ll travel in a comfortable 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced guide while staying in carefully selected safari lodges that provide comfort, excellent cuisine, and spectacular surroundings.

Itinerary

  • Morning Pickup

  • Guests are collected from their Hazyview accommodation and transferred to Elephant Whispers, approximately 10 km and 15 minutes along the R40.

  • Guided Elephant Interaction (1 hour)

  • Experienced handlers introduce the herd and guide guests through touching and standing alongside the elephants, hand-feeding, learning about elephant anatomy, behaviour, and social structures, and a conservation presentation on threats facing African elephant populations. Handlers assist with photography throughout.

  • Return Transfer
  • Guests are driven back to their Hazyview accommodation. The total outing takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours including transfers
